Hello and thank for your interest,
I'm Angie Dubis, founder of A Day of Giving. I graduated from Valdosta State University with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1996. I then went to massage school in Southfield Michigan at Irene’s Myomassology Institute. While at IMI I learned a lot about helping others and knew that I wanted to contribute to the betterment of the world.
After Irene’s I continued my education in massage and bodywork and have accumulated over 1300 hours of education in the field, becoming a Holistic Heath Practitioner in CA. I also completed my Masters coursework in Counseling at Northern Arizona University in 2003.
I began organizing A Day of Giving in 1999 when I had difficulty finding a charity to volunteer my time. I was building my massage practice and didn’t have the ability to commit to set weekly times required by many organizations. I needed a charity with some flexibility and I couldn’t find one that could accept the small amount of time I could offer. I then tried to donate massage services to women and children at a shelter and found government regulations restricted me from donating my valuable services.
I kept thinking, “What can I do? The little bit I can do will never help much!” Then I smiled at a homeless person on the street and upon seeing that smile returned, realized that even a small act of compassion and attention could make a world of difference to someone who had none! I decided that I wanted to create a way that individuals could choose how much time and energy to donate toward a cause. So I created A Day of Giving so individuals could donate services, products or time in any amount. I know that no one person will solve all the worlds’ problems, but by joining together we can create a force that helps someone who is struggling or who has lost hope.
I plan on organizing A Day of Giving for the rest of my life. It is my way of giving back to my community. I feel I have been very blessed in my life and I want to share those blessings with others who are not as fortunate. I am most proud of the fact that A Day of Giving is 100% volunteer - the entertainment, food, services, printing, advertising, etc are all donated. The entire event down to the smallest detail is a testament to the power of numbers.
Each of us can certainly give an hour of services, time or wages.
We can donate an item or recruit a friend or local business to donate an item to the raffle or auction. I designed it so if everyone gives a little, the charity gains a lot!
A Day of Giving is based on WORD OF MOUTH. So tell your friends about our cause and help us help others.
Thank You for your time and support,
BE WELL-
Angie
